James (a Ranger) and Sam (a Mage) race through a dungeon, trying to find the hidden treasure they've been sent to secure. But as they round the corner, the passage becomes dark. Sam uses an illumination spell to light the passage, but in doing so attracts a small group of beholders...

I don't know much about anthro anatomy, but everything looks like a solid reference was used. I'd say the sorceress' head could be a little bigger. The pose or composition has been done before, though there is about enough to keep the eye wandering. I think what kills this the most, and I have been there, is the craft. I feel most of it was done with a mouse and not a tablet, and the lines are pixelated. Brick formations also look uneven, and not on purpose. Light bounces off some things well but the drop off or color casting on other objects is weird. The staff suggests a hard central light with a soft glow around it. There will be hard highlights but also soft fades around it. The sorceress is done about right but the archer suffers. The way he's lighted and at that distance suggests leather and reflective surfaces but the placement and folds read cotton. I think you missed the spear end of the staff during the shading process... Also with the monster in the back, the random spotlight on it is off. If you want to make it menacing and mysterious, cast it in shadow. If it is slimy, some well placed highlights are enough to do the trick. Overall, line steadiness and fading in to the horizon needs to be studied. What also needs to be studied is how different lighting works and how different objects interact with it. Materials, lighting, and lines. Sorry if it was brutal...
Professionally done, no doubt. I can honestly say you're probably getting better at backgrounds than me. I love James' pose. Those lighting FX are pretty solid, but as a critique I wonder if a gaussian blur effect would look better. You can use it for all types of special lighting FX: atmospheric haze of a planet, lightning bolts and/or laser bolts, glowing eyes. It's an over all simple, balanced and realistic lighting effect. Just a thought...
you were already super good at art but this has a lot of improvement in it! really dynamic and interesting to look at~ I love the dramatic shadows and the poses of the characters! awesome work!
Awesome work, Tank, I really love the details, and the colors are awesome. I really enjoy Sam's outfit! Also, really cool angle on the monsters that are facing away from the screen- and the staff is great. ^^ Thanks so much!
